What Are Connector Interfaces in Cable Protection Systems?

A connector interface is the engineered junction between a corrugated conduit and its termination point -- an enclosure wall, junction box, bulkhead, another conduit section, or any other system boundary. It is not a generic fitting. It is a purpose-designed component that must simultaneously achieve mechanical retention of the conduit, environmental sealing against moisture, dust, and chemicals, and strain relief for the cables routed inside.

In a cable protection system, the conduit itself handles abrasion resistance and flexibility along routing paths. But at every endpoint, the connector interface determines whether the system actually delivers its rated protection. An IP67-rated conduit connected through an unsealed or mismatched fitting does not provide IP67 protection. The system rating is only as good as its weakest transition.

Schlemmer connector interfaces are designed as part of an integrated cable protection system. Each interface is matched to specific Schlemmer conduit diameters using the NW (Nennweite / nominal width) designation system. This system-matched approach eliminates the compatibility risk that arises when sourcing conduits and fittings from different suppliers. The conduit outside diameter, corrugation profile, and wall geometry are all accounted for in the interface design, ensuring consistent engagement force, sealing compression, and pull-out resistance across the product range.

The NW designation corresponds to the conduit's nominal inside diameter in millimeters. Common sizes include NW4.5, NW7, NW10, NW12, NW17, NW23, NW29, NW36, NW48, and NW70. Connector interfaces for each NW size are available with metric thread connections (M12, M16, M20, M25, M32, M40, M50, M63) for direct mounting into standard enclosure knockouts per DIN EN 60423.
